Psalms

Explore the Psalms with Nesi: biblical prayers and songs of praise, lament, hope and faith, including psalms traditionally associated with King David.

Psalms

The Psalms are a collection of sacred prayers, songs and poems found in the Hebrew Bible. Known in Hebrew as Tehillim, meaning “praises,” the Book of Psalms contains 150 psalms expressing praise, thanksgiving, sorrow, repentance, hope and trust in God.

The Psalms have been part of Jewish prayer and worship for centuries and later became deeply important within Christianity as well. Their words continue to give people a way to pray during moments of joy, suffering, fear and gratitude.

Psalms and King David

Many Psalms are traditionally associated with King David, one of the most important figures in biblical and Jewish history.

David is remembered not only as a king but also as a poet and musician. The Psalms traditionally connected with him express a deeply personal relationship with God—from celebration and confidence to loneliness, danger and repentance.

Prayer, Praise and Trust in God

The Psalms address many different experiences of life. Some praise God and creation, while others ask for protection, forgiveness, justice or guidance.

This variety is one reason the Psalms remain meaningful. They show that prayer can include joy, gratitude, questions, sadness and hope.

Psalms in Judaism

The Psalms hold an important place in Jewish religious tradition. Individual psalms are incorporated into Jewish prayers, ceremonies and observances, and Tehillim are also recited privately in many circumstances.

The Book of Psalms forms part of the Ketuvim (Writings), one of the three major divisions of the Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh.

Psalms in Christianity

Christianity inherited the Psalms from the Hebrew Bible, and they became an important part of Christian prayer, worship and music.

Many Christian traditions sing or recite Psalms during worship, and passages from the Psalms are frequently referenced in the New Testament.

Psalms and My Music

The Psalms have also become an important source of inspiration for my own music. I explore their messages through singing, melodies and musical adaptations, bringing these ancient prayers into my personal spiritual and musical journey.

Through music, I hope to share the timeless messages of faith, hope, praise and trust in God found in the Psalms.
