From Jerusalem and Bethlehem to the Jordan River and Ephesus, many places continue to preserve traditions connected with the stories of the Bible and the history of Christianity. Through my travels, I have visited many of these sacred locations and explored their history, traditions and spiritual significance.
Jerusalem
Jerusalem is at the heart of Christian history. According to the New Testament, many important events in the final days of Jesus took place in and around the city.
Christian pilgrims come to Jerusalem to visit places traditionally associated with the life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
Bethlehem
Bethlehem is traditionally recognized by Christians as the birthplace of Jesus.
The Church of the Nativity stands at the center of Christian pilgrimage in Bethlehem and commemorates the traditional location of the birth of Jesus.
Mount of Olives
The Mount of Olives overlooks the Old City of Jerusalem and appears repeatedly in the New Testament.
It is associated with several events in the life of Jesus and is located near the Garden of Gethsemane, traditionally connected with the night before his arrest.
Jordan River & Bethany Beyond the Jordan
The Jordan River has an important place in biblical history.
Bethany Beyond the Jordan, also known as Al-Maghtas, is traditionally associated with John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus. Today, Christians from around the world visit the area as a place of pilgrimage, prayer and baptism.
Ephesus
Ancient Ephesus, in present-day Turkey, became an important center of early Christianity.
The city is associated with the Apostle Paul and early Christian communities and is also one of the Seven Churches of Revelation mentioned in the Book of Revelation.
House of the Virgin Mary
Near ancient Ephesus is the House of the Virgin Mary, traditionally associated with the later years of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The peaceful site has become an important Christian pilgrimage destination and attracts visitors from many countries.
