How to Be Christ

Who Can Be Described as a Christian?

The question “Who can be described as a Christian?” can be explored by looking at the meaning of the word Christ and its historical roots.

The word Christ comes from the Greek Christos, which translates the Hebrew word Messiah (Mashiach), meaning “the Helper of God.” In biblical tradition, the Messiah is understood as the one who was sent by God to help and safe the believers as they were living in bad conditions recently under Roman Empire.

In Hebrew, the name Yeshua (Yoshua) means “God saves” or “God helps.” Christians believe that Yeshua — known in English as Jesus — is the promised Messiah.

From this perspective, Jesus is understood as the one sent by God to bring salvation and divine help. Therefore, a Christian is someone who is connected to Christ and believes in Him. The word Christian originally meant “follower of Christ” or “belonging to Christ.”

You could also say that a Christian is someone who seeks to live in a way that reflects the character and teachings of Jesus. In this sense, being Christian is not only about belief but also about following His example.

So, to express it clearly: a person may call themselves a Christian if they believe in Jesus as the Messiah and experience His guidance or help in their life.
